Dan Markes spent 10 years working shift work in the grind house we call the intelligence community. In 2014 he was working a counter-IED mission in Afghanistan. The mission was critical to the political infrastructure of the country and his team was pushing boundaries in the development of TTP’s to mitigate the Taliban threat. During the egress portion of his mission for the night, he tuned into a special on the NIPR T.V. that covered the Boston bombing; in particular the security in place during the event. Dan quickly realized that the TTP’s he spent the past 6 months developing in Afghanistan were very similar to the need in our country here. That night, Dan contacted his childhood friend and serial entrepreneur, Alex Wang to pitch the idea.
At the time, Alex was engaged with several startups and innovative solutions in the healthcare and fintech industry applying software capabilities, augmented reality, machine learning, and big data processing. Utilizing his experience at large, small and startup companies, he decided to take on the mission and see it through with Dan. Together they promised to start there.
Within a month Dan had a meeting with Governor McAuliffe and solidified partnerships with academic institutions and government agencies to begin research and development for extrapolating military TTP’s and transferring into a domestic purpose.
After some time in R&D, Dan and Alex realized the need to expand their company into the intelligence community for an array of reasons. One of which, was to provide and mitigate the vacuum of innovation in our intelligence community. As of 2017, Markesman Group is now a TS cleared solutions integrator with a variety of customers throughout the DoD and federal agencies. Our success is credited to our incredible team of professionals and because of this, we have accomplished impossible feats very early on in the company’s life.

Markesman was founded by analysts, from both government and civilian communities to optimize our nations need to innovate. As a young analyst in the intelligence community, I was afforded incredible opportunities that pushed me past what I perceived were my personal limits. I came to realize that my limitations were in fact mental roadblocks that were a limiting factor in what I could personally accomplish and what I could contribute to my country. Markesman was founded with these principles in mind – we invest in our team and will empower them to reach accomplishments some may consider unlikely. Our goal is to not only improve our team's potential but in fact improve our nation's potential.
